You have taken of one of our two quizzes as a man in a relationship or as a concerned family member, friend, or supervisor...and the results are concerning. Here are suggested next steps.
Accept that the relationship you’re in involves psychological abuse. It’s not easy, but recognizing this truth is the first step toward taking back control and protecting your mental health.
Whether it’s a close friend, family member, or professional, opening up about what you’re going through is crucial. Even if you’re not ready to take action, sharing can help you process and start to see things more clearly.
Begin protecting yourself by setting small boundaries. Limit the time you spend with your partner or detach from toxic situations when they arise. Focus on activities that help you recharge, like exercise, hobbies or connecting with positive people.
Approach your loved one with compassion, letting them know you’re available without judgment. It’s important to create a safe space for them to talk, even if they’re not ready to open up yet.
Offer resources that can help them understand what’s happening. Avoid pushing them into making any decisions. Let them know you’re there, and support them at their own pace. Suggest taking the Romantic Relationship Quiz.
Keep checking in, maintaining a consistent presence. Even if they don’t act right away, knowing they have your support can help them feel less isolated and more empowered when they are ready.
